The highest Slovak mountain hut
Chata pod Rysmi is the highest (2250 m) and youngest Tatra chalet, built in 1933. It is located in a scree below the Váha saddle in the valley of the same name, which is part of the Žabie plies basin at the end of the Mengusovská valley. Due to its location, it has been destroyed several times by rock and snow avalanches. The chalet currently provides not only meals but also accommodation in a dormitory in the roof extension and, if necessary, in the dining room on the floor.
The cottage is an excellent starting point for mountaineering in the Bielovodská Valley (Ťažká-Česká Valley, Galéria Ganku, Rysy…), but also in the upper parts of the Mengusovská Valley and Zlomísk. A hiking trail leads around the cottage to Rysy, continuing on to Morské oko. It is only open during the summer season (from June 1 to October 31).
